poem

I will slowly fade away
I will let you forget my name
And one day you will remember it
But I will no longer be the same

I've gotten used to the silence
And the contact from someone other than you
I've grown accustomed to the nothingness
And everything gone askew

I don't wish for your love
Or for anything much at all
I just wish for your kindness
I just wish for you to recall

To recall all our happiness
And everything we have shared
To show me some compassion
When you've left me so unprepared

Unprepared for life without your closeness
And to face this all alone
Unprepared for your abandonment
And facing the unknown

And you can forget me
And all our years as one
But I'll tell you that for certain
That you will soon find that I am second to none.
