Lies

Lies

A Poem by Kaseda
"

A story about lies in a relationship.

"
I lied to him.

I said the cold didn't bother me
simply so he would take my jacket and be warm,
and then clenched my teeth together
so he wouldn't realize they were chattering.

I said that I didn't want anything from McDonalds,
because not only did I not want him to spend his money on me
but also because I'd rather he eat and I not
then the other way around.

I said that I didn't want to know,
because I'd rather be crying because I was worried about him
than us both be crying because
it's such a sore topic.

I said that I was fine,
because I'd prefer for him to be fine
while I am hurt
than to have us both be hurt.

He lied to me.

He said that he wanted to end the relationship
because we don't talk enough,
although I knew
there was a deeper reason.

He said that my eyes were beautiful,
however it was quite obvious later
that he couldn't care less,
because he never looked at them again.

He said that he was just as hurt as I was,
because he loved me just as much,
but he was never hurt at all,
nor was he in love.

Yet he said he loved me.
