Candy Canes are a food group

Candy Canes are a food group

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin
"

It's Christmas time. Candy Canes are the subject. Ha, ha!

"

Candy Canes are a food group

Come on, admit it; Candy canes are a food group.

Remember past warmth yuletide trees festooned.

Twirling Garlands around Christmas trees smile.

Festive red and white shepherd crooks adorning.

Happy children dip peppermint sticks in hot cocoa.

Candy canes are a food group at least for a while.

Let’s enjoy peppermint chocolate coffee mornings.

At the check stand Candy canes chuckle or is it me?

Blueberry or raspberry canes not my favorite.

Nothing better than the real thing.

Yup, give me candy canes every time.

Merry Christmas!

Wonderful taste, delight and memories, Kathy, and your writing, as usual does it all great justice!

For me tis the aromas of Christmas: of cooking, fir cones, log fires, new books and many others. Mix them or take each at any one time and forget the smell of thick fog, fuel, cigarette smoke and farmyards forever!

I remember sugar canes too. Candy canes were all the rage in the days where dental decay was all the rage lol. An entertaining poem Kathy.

I remember candy canes as a youngster.... hanging on Xmas trees and trying to grab them before my siblings got to to them; they taste soooo good...that unique flavor, and syrup drooling down my chin...those were the days...and no other flavor either.... very upbeat!
