The Constant Joke

The Constant Joke

A Poem by Kendra Stewart
"

People joke around about mental illnesses WAY too much!

"

It’s a constant joke…

“this test is so hard”

then the fake finger gun goes off.

Its a constant shame

“the cat… it scratched me”

“I, uh, I fell down the stares”

the lies roll off…

Its a constant joke…

“I am all alone”

the fake noose hangs.

It’s a constant shame

“suck it up, get over it”

“be a man” “your a fake”

The words sink in.

Think before you joke

Care before you judge.

For some it’s not all fake…

Its a constant joke.

But it shouldn’t be.

Words of power

were not made joking mouths.

They aren't taken as pretend.

Give them a world where

they are wanted and loved

give them a world where

it is theirs and yours

Don’t make them hide

Don’t you hide either...

invite them into the light

and give them your hand.
