Burlesque opened her eyes and looked out the window; expectant to see her friend

 

 

 

 

She didn’t

 

 

 

 

 

 

She found her hat, gloves and scarf on the seat beside her and put them on

 

 

 

 

Then she got up and walked down the corridor to the caboose in the back of the train

 

 

 

 

 

On her way, she passed the woman with her child

 

 

 

 

 

“Not now, Miss, I have to find my friend”

 

 

 

 

The woman with the child smiled and insisted she sit and stay for a chat

 

 

 

Burlesque politely agreed and sat

 

 

 

 

 

 

From where Burlesque sat, she saw the man her friend was talking to

 

 

 

 

 

She thought she knew this man

 

 

 

 

 

 

She looked at the woman, out of focus and excused herself

 

 

 

 

 

 

“If you don’t mind, please pardon me, my friend has spoken to this man before; he may know where she went to”

 

 

 

 

 

The little girl watched Burlesque as she went over to the man

 

 

 

 

 

She followed Burlesque and walked over to the man when she sat down

 

 

 

 

 

“Do you know where my friend went to, young fellow?”

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The man looked up in surprise and smiled

 

 

 

 

“Well, where were you going to go to?”

 

 

 

 

“Excuse me?”

 

 

 

 

 

 

The man cleared his throat and smiled, saying one more time

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

“Where were you off to, before you came here?”

 

 

 

 

 

Burlesque got up and went to the caboose, leaving the man to stare after her, getting up a few seconds later
