What a Miserable World

What a Miserable World

A Poem by Kieran James McGovern

I see battle scenes

What can I do?

Saying to myself

“it’ll all be over soon”

And I think to myself

What a miserable world

I see children who

Will die by night

The ever-out-of-mind

Likewise forever out of sight

And I think to myself

What a miserable world

I see white-collar criminals, saluting their flags

The money they’re stuffing in body bags

I see the rich run to the hills, as the poor sit and pray

But in the hour of darkness, we are all the same

I see my young and empty life

The cold, hard ground

Tragedies, disparity

Anxiety abound

And I think to myself

What a miserable world

Sink within myself…

What a miserable world
