Outside

Outside

A Poem by Kim Jimenez
"

"Getting used to this reality, That I’ll never be a priority."

"

There’s nothing new,
They still left you;
Those things that you do,
Will never get through;

I thought you’re strong,
Enough to knew all along,
That you will never belong,
Wondering what you’ve done wrong;

I really tried,
To stay by their side,
Opened my arms wide,
But why I’m still on the outside?

I guess I could never impart,
How they broke my heart,
But couldn’t depart,
Because in their lives I want to be a part;

Your life’s a pity,
Getting used to this reality,
That you’ll never be a priority,
But still treat them with sincerity;

Like a cellophane,
See-through presence in disdain,
But still I will remain,
Even if I’m alone in pain.

Kim, you’ve certainly conveyed a deep pain and sadness. Your last stanza is particularly telling. The “cellophane” reference brings forward an image and emotion, perhaps trapped, suffocating, and yet able to see everything outside. I look forward to reading more here in the Cafe.
