It was only a glance the first time

From that glance I knew your skin was smooth and fare

And your hair

It was long and dark

 

A lingering gaze was the second

From that gaze I knew your eyes were light hazel, almost green

Bright and happy

 

When I finally looked upon you, speaking words of greeting

You acted shy, as shy as I felt…

Then you spoke back

Then I learned your voice

 

When I finally spoke to you with words of friendship

You smiled, and the dormant shards of a heart, long ago shattered, quivered…

You told me your name

And ever since it has not left my thoughts

 

You then spoke to me

I was no longer the soul initiator

You asked me the question I was prepared to ask

But you beat me to it

 

When I asked the question back

You replied with “no”

When I asked the next question

You smiled and said “yes”

 

The dormant shards of a heart, oh so long ago shattered, quivered

And sprung together

Complete once more,

You made my heart soar…

 

The lead weight in my chest

That sat upon my crushed heart

Was flung from my breast

Now I stand upon it and sing!

 

Because you said yes

I can smile, I can live!
