Kitchen Tables.

Kitchen Tables.

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

Just another observation while reviewing!

"

The cracked surface lays waste to dust and dirt,

Patterns coloured to ease the mind,

Black and greys sooth every angle,

Sprawled with clutter to hide the bind.

Places for everything and everything it's place,

Take here now not leave and swell,

Grabbing keys that scrape and huddle,

Never looking just hear kitchens bell.

Further now to legs that never sit,

Pasted bolts have eternity in thinking,

Plastic bags lay light with shopping,

Potted flowers overlooking this blinking.

A solid stance for memory and times,

A fire dances in the background to tell fables,

Music skips through the air now sit,

At many a families kitchens tables!

Fascinating subject matter and at this point I spend a lot of time at the kitchen table. I'm not fond of it or my circumstances but I am quite fond of the flow and and meter of this little poem. Pasted bolts that have eternity in thinking. I like that line. If tables could talk.

Ever the romantic darling
Thomas although nostalgic this piece begs questions of the patency of such a tablau!

Quite possibly
The kitchen table is/was the centerpiece of most homes and families. I like this poem a lot...with the busy lives and scattered families sometimes it almost feels like nostalgia, but you make it real and tangible here.

Thank you.
I sat a a table just like this one through my childhood in my friends house - the house was so serene because they didn't watch TV often nor had the radio on either. Coming from a mad-house of 6 kids I really lapped up the stillness. you brought that serenity flooding back here Thomas. Fine writing indeed.

I enjoyed this poem. Lately I have been reading Dryden and Ben Jonson. Your words have the strength of experiences and deep thoughts. In this poem. You gave a taste of words and situations. Thank you dear Friend for sharing the excellent poetry.

When I was a kid my mom kept very little on the kitchen table, we had a cat and dad did not want the cat anywhere near what he ate. The home I just sold had a small kitchen and a large dining room. My deceased husband manages to always find a corner of it to put magazines, and other clutter. If I could have him back ...he could clutter up the whole house. Nice write. Kathie
