Asatru.

Asatru.

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

a look at the many attacks on Irish shores of Vikings in the past that make us what we are today.

"
Diamonds only pale with pages of ink,
Covers in leather dear animals kill,
Faded memories now strike at the core,
Prayer needs on knees as they have their fill.

Asatru blade tips at wooden gates,
Flee to spires will hold no salvation,
A grouping huddled under the cross,
Monks come out no foolish retaliation.

Vikings wonder of gold and women's legs,
Fuelled indecency that binds smiles,
Children broken and dead in blood muck,
Drunk on jewels and of course their guile.

Boats leave a tortured land by the sea,
God looks on in their wake,
True treasure left in burning books,
New life to be had though all fake.

It feels like reading a novel in form of a poem, I could see the actions, the blood, the treasures, the brutality, the deaths. It's a sad past of a beautiful country. And sort of happening in our world today though in a different form. Thanks for sharing your masterpiece Sir. :)

My takeaway from this is we are still raping and pillaging and leaving destruction in our wake. It is beautifully and simply elegant, slicing to the heart of the matter. We are sad creatures, doomed to repeat our mistakes.

Your words hard, direct and true.

The above lines. The real world my friend. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome my friend.
Strange how people found different faiths to believe in all across the world and yet their conquerors shredded their beliefs and lives at will 'til they in turn were conquered. ...and it always seems that THEIR belief was the one and only TRUE belief - 'til it suddenly wasn't...
