Burning Bridges

Burning Bridges

A Poem by Jenny Perez

Stabbed in the back by those you trust,

When it is your life for which they lust.

Friendship wrought with doubt and greed,

For their own ego they must feed.

Lies and promises are now just words,

That fills the minds of those worthless herds.

For every action you fill with hurt,

They don’t realize their bridge is burnt.

With every step that they take,

Another victim fills with hate.

Soon we victims shall unite,

And with angry fists we will smite.

One of these days they will awaken,

To the screams of all those they’ve forsaken.

But for to late the realization dawns,

It is their own ends they’ve come upon.

As I read through your poignant stanzas I was reminded of an old 70's song by the O'Jays - Back Stabbers'! The imagery is strong and the wordplay carries the message very well. Great write my friend... :-)
