no regrets

A Poem by knightcall

standing here at the foot of the stage
the spotlight shows every sign of my age
i think about all the things i had to give
in order to live the life i live
you can't see the road from the back of a bus
you can't commit to love when there's never an us
they know my music but they don't know me
they care if there's four encores and not three
i think about a girl before all this begun
black t-shirt and blue jeans she was the one
i suppose i could look her up once again
but she's probably known a solid love since then
this was the life i had to choose
never gave a second thought to
what i had myself to lose
my body's aching and it's been so long since i've been home
another five hundred miles another arena with a dome
don't get me wrong
i'm not ungrateful
i just went where
i felt fate pull

Your lines are so spot on!! Again, your chosen words speak loud and clear of love, one desired but something stood in the way though you appreciate the road chosen. I adore your poems.

"you can't see the road from the back of a bus/you can't commit to love when there's never an us" i love those lines! so powerful and heart-felt. in those two lines, i could really feel the poem, and the speaker.

my one critique would be to take some chances with your rhyming. try to create surprising and unexpected rhymes with words you might not normally use. it can be a lot of fun for a reader to perhaps expect the next rhyming word, but instead be presented with something new!
