Laura

Laura

A Poem by J. James Reider
"

(E Book) (based on real life events)

"

Laura, I was just wondering

 if you ever missed me

or thought about me just before you went to sleep?

Laura, while I was pondering

what I can imagine but not see

sometime ago I gave you my heart to keep.

Laura, I will never again know

what it is like to hold you in

my arms and gently caress your cheek.

Laura, my heart will never ever glow

like it once did when I kissed your chin

while my heart and brain raced around playing hide and seek.

Laura, deep down I only want you to be happy

like I once was while at your side

so I will not ever interfere with the life you have now.

Laura, I hope you don't think me too sappy

to finally apologize for the time I lied

for at the time of the lie I didn't know how.

Laura, the warmth from your breath touches my ear

though you are nowhere around

I still get chills at the memory of your voice.

Laura, I have loved you year after year

but t'will be a love that is never found

all because I once made a wrong choice.

The echoing footsteps from my past.

The memory of the last kiss we shared.

Remembering how no one since you have compared.

Those memories forever will last.

I am guilty.

Laura, if I could say one more thing

to you before I forget

the way it felt to love you.

Laura, in your heart my angels sing

pining the future I ruined and regret

by making the bed that is forever blue.

I love you.

For over a decade and a fifth.

I haven't seen you in eight years.

Stillness, silence, sobriety.

I love you.

AWWWWW! This is beautiful, and really heartfelt and all that fun stuff. The first bit about, "would you ever miss me," really set the poem off right. When I think of being love sick, when I am love sick, I'm constantly thinking whether or not that loved one is missing me like I miss them.

"making the bed that is forever blue." ---fav line. So sad!!!

Loved the poem, and I thought the format was great starting with the whole Laura thing, but it started to get annoying half way through the poem. I think I would have liked it better if the poem was shorter to ensure that it is not dragging along. Writing shorter poems makes you think of different words, different ways to create a larger impact. Just an idea. I like long poems, don't get me wrong, but for this one..yeah...I'm just going to stop now.

What a sad, yet beautiful poem. I loved it. I could feel your longing in your words. Great read!
