It occurred to me
you never once looked me in the eye
you never spoke to me
you didn't pay me much mind

It occurred to me
the only thing you saw
was the girl next to me
or the girl next door

It occurred to me
that you became heartbroken
with a sense of anger
anger that would be pushed towards me

It occurred to me
all I ever wanted was your attention
but that didn't matter anymore
I was still nearby

It occurred to me
that nearby wasn't enough
I grew to hate him
and his new wife, an ex-girlfriend

It occurred to me
that I never needed you
you faded away from my life
like a snowflake melting
