A clear direction isn't always a clear path

I watch you smile
This slap to my face
A mountain made to mend
And no straight path to climb
Callouses torn
While blisters break away
Faded signs crack in the wind
Yet you're stuck in my gaze
Dark is the day
But my vision is clear
I climb from the inside
The more I give, the more I
Gain

You have such a way with blending words and emotions together. This is another wonderfully written piece.

One of the best openings that just hits you immediately,
"I watch you smile
This slap to my face "

Those two lines not only set the tone, but created dozens of memories in my mind immediately. To see the smile of the one of presumably caused some of the deepest and dark pain one has feel. And with am mountain of suffering that's blocking any chance of forgiveness, closure, or mending as you put it. I interpret in a different way that perhaps it was intended, but I feel the pain and darkness all the same.

I wonder how many sleepless and painful nights one must experience to be able to sum up so much emotion in so few words...

The ending though leaves me wondering so much more as if the story has yet to be fully experienced. Another very enjoyable piece. Saving this one.
