As the Himalayas gaze on

True story: 145 goddess followers in New Delhi were killed this week due to a landslide in the Himalayas as they went to worship a Hindu Goddess.

At her shrine

   In the foothills

      Of the Mountains

 

Death cloaks herself with a chanting lullaby

Brightly colored clothes covering worshipers

Does she litter along the Hindu goddess' pathway

 

The age old Himalayas appear to look on with apathy

Their ancient, weary eyes judge the trampled bodies below

They listen as Death once again creates a song of demise

 

When will they realize this fake god hides behind a smokescreen disguise?

Hi Laura,

I think the piece is very well penned, but I think the premise is offensive. Are we then to think that the over 1300, mostly Christians, that died in Katrina represent an even harsher judgement from God on how bad Christianity is in the world? I don't think so. And I think the bible says it best: "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again"--Matthew 7:1-2. I'm sorry, Laura, but this seems wrong. Don't presume to know what God wants or why he does things. That is his domain.

Oh, wow, that's a horrible tragedy. I guess mother nature has a way to balance things out when she feels trampled on.
I can't say if it was god or not..
I like the flow and the format.

I liked it. Point of view aside, it just goes to show us humans that we are really tiny in a very big world.

i have trouble ascribing natural disasters to God's wrath. if that were the case, new orleans French quarter would not have been about the only part of the city left high and dry. and by now god would have leveled hollywood, the vatican, and nearly every church. i don't think he works that way any more. having said all that, the poem is very visual. i could picture what you were describing. and the event is certainly worth the attention that you give it. i hadn't heard about it till now. so while i may disagree with the sentiment expressed, i think it is presented well. good job.
