Two Words on Passion

Two Words on Passion

A Poem by An Li Leung
"

A fire burns in me

"
the night is over - twilight’s begun
the owls are snoring, the earth song’s sung
me by your side, your hand in mine
I’m only awake - you are divine

your scented breath of honeyed cherries
your rosy smile under the bare light
your deep eyes of elderberry
your dark skin of onyx night

it enchants me - exciting a fiery passion deep within
turning my heart of stone to one wherein an ember glows
but with you near, the light’s shuttered in
this private love I now only know

and with this thirsting for your breath
my life’s been all consumed
trickling slowly unto death
we’ve hummed our couple’s tune

even with our lifelong vow
we’ve fallen far, trapped deep in space
through forever and unto now
our love lives on with hurried pace
