Bleak Bounty

Bleak Bounty

A Poem by An Li Leung

Replete my soul, my dauntless doom
Stretch the tethers that forge my gloom
Bereft puissance, this ocean calms
Stirring vigor, the fire swells

A drafty mire girds these walls
Stolen shadows grow ever tall

Golden eyes, speckled black
Lustless gems blurred deep with cracks
They watch from the walls
The lights and shadows grow ever tall

This washed-out shore breathes deep once more
The firey chasm of churning limbs
Burns bright below, the depthless peril

Fine wings of bleached lucent feathers
Sprout from my spine, fanning smoke into flame
But the claws of fire, and molten light
Strip my body of dreams of flight

And as the pool around me consumes
All hope I have falls into gloom
