The Pendulum

The Pendulum

A Poem by lhawkins

The pendulum swings as life ticks away

to a creeping slow at the end of the day

Pendulums swing from an anchored will

a flowing glass to drain, not fill

Although I sleep for my eyes to rest

the choice, I know, is not the best

Step through the d’sired lucid dream

sleep chokes the growing of the scream

As the days grew on, I noticed all

my eyes were open before the fall

As life grows, and loves, and carries on

I intrude as my Visa is withdrawn

Returning the gesture as part to give back

Preferring to part with peace, not attack

Forgive me, I know this is not what you want

The swaying pendulum, a welcoming haunt

A life of living doesn’t heal the burn

The stars scream for my return

All roads end

And all books close,

All songs cease

Step off the coast.
