Safe Haven

You can trust me with a loaded gun.

You can trust me to light your way.

I'll shine a light for anyone,

just don't point it this way.

 

A friend, ally, or confidant,

I'll be anything you need.

But for half a heart in return,

you'll be stuck here waiting.

 

Don't be discouraged, my friend,

cause' you can always come in,

to this house,

to this place of refuge.

 

It has it's scrapes, it's cuts, it's tears,

it's bolts that will not budge.

But I'll tell you if you've come this far,

you wont leave here untouched.

 

For while this place is worn by them,

the ones who have come through.

The warmth you feel is from the fire he kindled,

the one who stayed.

You.

Im an amature writer. I only recently started writing poems. I don't know much about structure or specific genres but I hope to learn. As of now, I simply write to write.
