This Is The Life!

This Is The Life!

A Poem by Linda Marie Van Tassell
"

The sound of music is in my shell.

"
This is a great life for you and I -
a big green world and a big blue sky!
This is the life, all wrinkled in wit,
puckered in rhyme and perfectly writ.
I come with verses, songs to be sung.
I come to grow wiser and grow young.

I walk with sunlight along the trail,
and I grab the rainbow's colored tail.
I take the stars, their sparkle to wear;
and I place the moonbeams in my hair.
Today, as the circle widens sky,
laugh in your smile and smile in your sigh.

Strive to win the most coveted prize.
Let the winner shine forth from your eyes.
You are the best - the best you should be.
Yes! This is the life for you and me!
So, jump on the train and ride the wind.
Hold the hands of time like a dear friend.

Make sun and sky your blue lightning steel.
Break open the world, peel upon peel.
Do not resist life as though a strain.
Make the past come to life once again.
The world may say whatever it will.
Life is a dance; I'm dancing it still.

Those that are cautious stare and they say,
"Look how life is just passing away;"
but I dance, sing, and do what I please.
Life unravels in constant degrees.
Drunk on life with a natural high,
I taste snowflakes that fall from the sky.

God gave me life; I'm living it well.
The sound of music is in my shell.
The beat is not done; there's more to come.
I am the drummer and life - the drum.
Boom-boom-boom, and I march and I play.
My life is like a long holiday.

I leap for stars and touch divine spheres,
take the sparkles and turn them to tears -
sweet tears of joy that fall when I laugh.
A blend of both, life is half and half.
Beside the desert, God made the sea.
This is the life for you and for me.

It is what we make it - East and West.
We should enjoy it and live it best.
So, I dance naked and do not care.
I sing in the rain with savoir-faire.
In the moon's silver sparkling tide,
I am a vision - life's dancing bride.

"Make sun and sky your blue lightning steel./Break open the world, peel upon peel."

I particularly like the idea of turning a "Walking on Sunshine" mood into a weapon. ;-)

What I've noticed is all that I identify as attuned is playing ON the beat. People make way too much of their little diddly-bop deals -- just PLAY. I literally tap out snappier hand drum rhythms these days, besides keeping my songwriting standards taut and sinewy. Repeatedly, I've identified communication issues as "playin' behind the beat."

Your poem celebrates natural autonomy, the mystic thoroughness of life as it is, sans any "Waiting for Godot" ideas of the other. WHAT other? I've discovered that a lot of poets are HIDING behind their words instead of distilling their actual PRESENCE in their words, as agents of spiritually autonomous LIFE, reaching outward, not to be stroked, but to grace the reader.

"It is what we make it - East and West./We should enjoy it and live it best.
So, I dance naked and do not care./I sing in the rain with savoir-faire.
In the moon's silver sparkling tide,/I am a vision - life's dancing bride."

I think of Shiva/Shakti a great deal. The Goddess, ALL manifest existence in Form, in infinite tantric embrace w/Shiva, God/Formless Awareness, permeating all.

The One who was to come is always already Here.

I am happy to find the awesome piece which was read 1 to 2 years ago.
It is a monumental work.A Song of Myself of Walt Whitman or The Rebel of Kazi Nazrul Islam.
I exult like you Linda.
Each six-line stanza is a garden of different flowers where you danced with joy.
I felt like dancing there with you.
Great revival of a Great Poem!
Congratulations, Linda Marie Van Tassell!!!

Every rare so often, I come across a poem that leaves me quite breathless. Little Moon Flower was one, and this is one. Though very different in their execution and destination, the ability with which you delve the depths of the human heart and aspirations renders me incapable of further comment. Your words express all in such clarity, yet with such sublime mystery, that to add a word to them seems a sacrilege. Particularly loved "laugh in your smile, and smile in your sigh."

People on the outside will tell you how to live your life or run your relationship when really following your heart is the way to do it... I love the whole attitude of this piece, using free will to fullest degree and not caring what others think.

Poetry has been my passion since I was about fifteen years old, and I love the structure of rhyme and meter moreso than just randomly throwing words upon a page without any form whatsoever. Whi.. more..
