Heart Magnet

Heart Magnet

A Poem by Little Mouse

If I am honest

I was drawn to you like a magnet

Just a much attracted, as repelled.

Your craving for love

Smashed into me

Drew me close

And swallowed me whole.

All the while

You filled your tank

Cheating with your selfishness

Leaving me in a wake of pain.

The mementos of our love

Pile up like sad souvenirs

All I have left

As I take a stand on the flip side.

Now how can I still love you so

When I know you’ve got to go

No middle ground, no compromise

As far as the south pole.

Shielding myself

From the stones you throw

Stopping to build a wall

With a gaping heart-shaped hole

... that I know only God can fill,

in hopes He fills it for you too.

Amazing write

This is great. The progression is easy to follow. "Shielding myself...with a gaping heart-shaped hole" is really awesome. I like how it starts off with the initial attraction to being somewhat hopeful for both parties despite the hurt and selfishness.
