Could you be loved?

Could you be loved?

A Poem by Lizzie Mitchell

Could you be loved?

So much weight these words bear

Such hope and unsurety

What does it take to be loved

To be needed

To be worthy of the attention of another

To puzzle piece your life into another

To leave a void in your absence

But could you be love

and be loved?

You could be feared, envied, coveted,

worshiped, owned, despised

But could you be loved?

Could desire inspire love to be mistaken?

If a stranger dressed in love's attire

sold you love in a dream

Would you discover this lover's façade

and scream?

Or don rose-colored glasses

accept that love is blind

and everything you've heard about love could be wrong.

Love is not something you see

Love is not something you possess or give away

Love is not something you know

It’s an understanding

That love just wants to be

So love dismembered itself

Dissolved into microscopic pieces

And reformed into atoms

Atoms formed cells

The cells formed tissues

Tissues into organs

To organ systems

That created something new

Something with ideas and desires

Something so imperfect but full of potential

Something that could will to be what it wants

Something that could hate and be hated

Or be love and be loved

Love is not something you see

Love is not something you possess or give away

Love is not something you know

Love is you

This is very thoughtful and well constructed self-assessing writing.
It does make the reader ask that main question (the title) of themselves so you succedded in your aim I feel, here.
"You could be feared, envied, coveted,
worshiped, owned, despised
But could you be loved?" - Im sure Bob Marleys song inspired this and its as relevant today as it was then. Are we loveable (and can we love back?) I think if we can love then we are lovable.
Bravo Lizzie :))

Like the way you wrote it, you are excellent at writing poems, read a few more of yours a few days ago. Really like all the passion you have in all your poems, not just rhyming words.

Ok I'm fine with that, sounds good.
I think this is fantastic. I like the way you put the questioning into words, and I love the solution at the end. It makes it even more beautiful.. The complexity of the topic being put into the "simple" truth of the last sentence.. In my opinion truthful sentences are to be used like this.
I am very happy I read this.. Thank you
