Tough love

Tough love

A Poem by Lord of mad men

I order you around

I tell you to eat

I tell you to speak

I tell you to let go

I tell you to hold on

I tell you your mine

I tell you no one can have you

I tell you you’re safe

I tell you how I feel

I tell you you’re my baby girl

I tell you to stay

I tell you never to stray

I tell you these because

I tell you I love you.

I see this as more you illustrating a possessive side of love, the inner struggle some have to control, perhaps a control which protects and embraces, a person that needs this would reciprocate thus:

I listen to your words,
Released from my strife,
O my worries transferred,
May you give me now life

It could also be negative to which is also good to express as I feel poetry is emotion through words and all of it is beautiful in our journey to understand our humanity

Love can drive a person to do the strangest things, some of which aren't quite "lovely" or "romantic." Truth is, love has its rough spots that sometimes drive people to near insanity. To me, that's what this piece represents. It's obvious that the speaker has a possessive attude towards his lover, but the last line has a softness to it, reminiscent of the care and compassion that one can feel towards that "special someone." Although sometimes, the speaker's attitude and actions may not show it, he still loves her with all of his heart. That's, at least, what I got from this piece. Thanks for sharing.

I always find reading others ideas on relationship and love most interesting. Old concepts twisted around new ideas to create new ways of expressing one's self. Some would view your poem as mistitled thinking slavery a more fitting title, that might be so if love were not in the equation because love makes a slave of us all. Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!

Wow, this is something a parent would find quite powerful. All of those little things they said to us only meant that they loved us and wanted us to be safe.
Wonderfully written.
