A Poem by Brad
"

remembering...

"

From the Arizona

To Omaha beach

The Alamo

And Ford’s Theatre

The stone black wall that stands in D.C.

Dachau and Auschwitz

World Trade center, Shanksville and the Pentegon

The battlefields of the mason Dixon line

To roadside epitaphs and cemetery headstones

A plaque, a hospital wing, a park or arena

We remember somehow

In someway

Everything affected us differently

From generation to generation

We carried scars

Some are fresh

Some are old and calloused

But we leave ourselves reminders

So that we don’t repeat

We don’t forget

And keep a space open

In the hearts of the living…

I like this. Every time I drive by a certain spot on a certain stretch of pavement in eastern ND, I see the spots where three-fourths of a family was destroyed. I see those markers everywhere, from the rez to the backwater hamlets that dot the landscape. The sad thing is, we never learn from our mistakes, and we are bound to blip out of existence at some point and there will be no trace of us at all. That puts everything into perspective real fast.

I wish we could look at those reminders just once and not forget, but many of us have lousy memories. I guess that's why they're called "reminders". If I have the time, I always stop to read them.

Excellent poem! We never need to forget 911 , should always keep it buried in our hearts and remember those who died!

There are special events and people that need and silently call for wonderful thoughts and tributes like this, Brad. There's so much empathy expressed, it's near heart-breaking.

Each generation holds the scars...and wouldn't it be great if we started to heal and skip all future generations..xx This is a wonderful tribute and memorial to all effected by such loss.. Blessings to your friend Mikey..xo
