Poetry for She Will Be Loved

Poetry for She Will Be Loved

A Poem by Sophie
"

For a contest, the poem had to be inspired by a song, I got She Will Be Loved by Maroon 5

"

I know you said to stay away

I know you said to never come 'round again

but, Sir, I have to ask for your daughter's hand

I'll mend that broken smile of hers

make sure “I love you” is woven into every word

She'll know she'll never be sad again,

and she will be loved,

I'll be a good man.

Tell me to leave,

tell me to never come back,

I really don't mind waiting in the rain

waiting for her to pull up in her car

Maybe she'll be able to convince her father.

But I promise you, she will be loved,

She'll always know it

I'll always show it,

and some day, when our daughter is asked for her hand

I'll remember this,

ask him he loves her

and yes, yes he can.

Because I know,

she's beautiful,

she wonderful,

and she will be loved.

Here's what I like - it has natural rhyme and rhythm. It sounds very much like a male speaking formally to a skeptical father and I like that there's a reference to the future of his own daughter. I personally like your interpretation of the song, as you've twisted it to include more substance than the original which is quite good! There's nothing here I don't like and it was an interesting read, Sophie. The length was good and no unneeded words were present. *99

You did a really good job with intertwining the song throughout the poem. It was so sweet at the end, 'she will be loved.'

I like the story. I like the beginning. Trying to get the father blessing. I like the flow of thoughts and the strong ending. Thank you for the outstanding poem.
