One step at a time

One step at a time

A Poem by magicwhisper

Fingers twitch, shiver, shake,
her palm is so sweaty it slips,
a gasp escapes, legs cave under her as they give way,
what why? When she was doing so well?

A panic starts to rise, familiar fear has risen,
the darkness approaches, black and bleak
"NO" she begs "PLEASE NOT Again"
a evil giggle escapes its daggered mouth, the gagging must descends, Bam!
she coughs, she retches, as the familiar bitter taste surrounds her.
she slips, she falls Bang!
her eyes fly open "oh f**k"
a shiver down her spine as it puzzles into place,
she has stumbled between a rock and a hard place.
The darkness slowly slips in but hell the courage fills her.

One step, two step, three step, four
Stop, breathe, breathe
And now repeat over and over again
She knows the score

The courage spews up super strength,
an arm descends is it hers?
Smashing the rock, her knuckles are smashed to bits but it's the pride that hits
"I DID IT, IT DOSENT EXIST"

One step, two step, three step, four
Stop, breathe, breathe,
And now repeat over and over again
She knows the score

A smile starts, then a mighty laugh forms
"I am stronger than I thought"
This new found grace, aligns her bones a f they creak into place.
But she pauses as the view hits her.

The darkness below, the blackness, the evil, it is where darkness thrives.
The memories they slip through, she remembers it all.
The rotten food, the foul trees, void, deep, alone, emotionless oh god the pain. The scars, the nightmares begin as the terror of the evil creatures from the depths of hell who threw her, discarded her like a old rag doll.
The doom that burns the scars are there, most are not visible to the naked eye, but she has been broken time and time again. Perhaps she is even broken beyond repair.

She looks up, squinting in the light.
The difference is astonishing, the opposite end of the scale.
The sunshine, the rainbows, fields filled with happiness, joy and hope, feeling safe with only a cloud in the sky surrounded by clear blue skies.

One step, two step, three step, four
Stop, breathe, breathe
And repeat over and over again
She knows the score
The strength at times fills her, it damn nearly explodes, and it randomly drains and leaves her bare to the bones just as fast.
But back to basics, the sheer need to survive, the hide the brokeness inside, to act like all is fine.

One small step at a time.
