Seaglass

Seaglass

A Poem by makayla
"

this is my most polished poem and i'd rather not spoil what it's about so you can make your own connections!!

"

His eyes are a deep, broken green.

His mouth is a shark in the water,

and the anger on his tongue drops the awkward feeling to the pang in your stomach.

Tread carefully, or he will break you like glass.

You’ll start to hate the hate that flows freely from his mouth,

his words empty like bottles left in the sand

yet still rings like a seagull’s call,

and you realize if you let yourself tumble like this you’ll only become smaller.

Soon, you’ll start to feel your will giving up and shifting back under the waves.

He appears rounded out at first glace,

but you know he will make your mouth bleed all the same;

jagged edges deceiving you,

cutting you up from the outside in until all you taste is iron and loneliness,

falling back down your throat, choking words that want to escape.

“No,

why,

please,

don’t.”

You’ll wish you could change the way

his lies are so semi-transparent;

like seaglass.

You can see them there,

but the salt tints and changes him so often, trying to shape the perfect man, that he is never the same.

It’ll come to a point where you’ll be lead to believe the whole sea itself is a lie.

You’ll become so grain-like,

but people will call you so smooth

that you’ll give up and drown under him yet again.

Sometimes you’ll almost think his scent is graceful, light and airy,

a comfy beach towel and a compliment,

but then you’ll get a sniff of the strong, revolting stench of salt and fear and broken beer bottles

and you’ll remember;

“No,

why,

please,

don’t”

Doesn’t matter when you’re 6 feet underwater.
