o' death

o' death

A Poem by manchilld99

o' death

you have come not for me

but just to let me see

you are never far

you need always be close

where the living leave

suddenly, slowly, inexplicably

you leer, don't hide your face

i saw your face

in my mother's eyes

as we all had gathered

to lay my brother to rest

was that your way

did you mean to say

that she would be next

and then she was next

in the pitiful wimper

of a cancerous dog

you foretold his demise

and another brother's soon

the older i grow

the more i know you

and more and more you take

and less and less i have left

these lost pieces of my life

you have in your store

you prepare a place for me

custom made by the minute

o' death

take all that is dear

until when you come for me

i'll have nothing to lose

do not come yet for me

but take my life every day

slowly, until none is left

and then i will be ready

It appears that death has been a close companion to you. I too, have had my brother and mother die, and my first love, as well. I think it changes your perspective on death, but more importantly-life.
