Good Things In Life

Good Things In Life

A Poem by Mari R-J

You taste like the booze I'm drinking tonight.
Refreshing, strong, and sweet like rum.
Earthy, ripe, and complex like red wine.
Smoky, warm, and rugged like bourbon.

You sound like the song I'm dancing tonight.
Fast and heavy like my island drums.
Slow and light like an acoustic guitar.
Burning and sinking like Nina's voice.

You feel like the shirt I'm wearing tonight.
Perfectly fitting like those favorite jeans.
Soft and comfortable like a flannel shirt.
Delicate and bare like a silk gown.

You are to me like all good things in life.
That perfect cigar or smooth chocolate bar.
That cup of coffee that fills your soul.
Once you've had them, everything else seems ordinary.

Seems to me …
your poems make everything else seem ordinary.

Touched upon nicely.
Aye, indeed - the weight of this can come as a surprise;
however, the subtlety of the successor can also come as a surprise, as well.

Very lovely comparisons & images.
Soft. Smooth.

Thank you. Those comparisons come easy cause they're real

Precisely. I am glad you said that. Glad you see that.
