In the Shadows

In the shadows, our safe location

Away from our fears and our desires

The bad overcomes the good

We forget who we are and become animals

In the shadows

We dwell in the shadows

Our own family, a place where we are welcomed

The coming of age, we are helped

On our own struggle, being a teen

In the shadows

We lurk, trying to find answers

Peers, sports, school just life

Piling on us, trying not to crack

Breaking is a sign of weakness

We cannot be weak

In the shadows

We are safe 

Where are you?

I am all alone in the halls

Looking through the sea of faces

Seeing couples kiss

The passion can be seen

By that one touch

You left me

For her

My best friend

You promised me you would always be here, but

Where

Are

You?

You left me here cold and

Alone

Bottom of the backpack, forgotten and lost.

I am the math homework

Under the binder

You probably forgot about me

That’s ok

Everyone else has to

Forget me.

I am the lab book in your locker

You never use it

You forgot about me

I'm used to being left out

I am used to being forgotten.

I am the English paper

Blown in the breeze

You lost me.

That’s ok.

I'm away and

I'm free

 I am lost

I am lost and alone

But in your arms I feel warmth

I feed on your kindness

I need you

You are like my superman

You understand me

I want you

To be without me because

Without you

I am alone

 Protection

We all have some sort of protection

Mine was the dark veil

Framing my high pale cheekbones

I allow no one in

When you came

I allowed you in

Your cold hand on my face was my protection

Then you left

You left me unprotected

I desire for the cold hand

I am vulnerable now

And you were my all

My protection. 

On the corner, waiting

I am here

On the corner

Waiting

Waiting for you

The street corner

In the rain

I glance at my watch

5:45

You left me chilled to the bone

I run for my house

Leaving behind a single red rose

On the corner in the rain 

The passion of a writer

Writing is peaceful

It helps me

It is comfort

Writing is like a chocolate

Precious and delicious

Writing is the candy for the soul

Writing helps me cope

It is my life

Writing is peaceful

It is an exercise

Get better and be better

Writing is a true passion and not to take lightly

With this you reach a variety of feelings a teenager would feel. I related to many of these, especially in Protection and Where Are You. It reminds me that I'm not the only one struggling in growing up. Oh! I forgot the very first one. I loved that one the best. The thought of people competing with each other is almost always looked over. When you brought it up it brought up a couple of mean girls that I know who always bring other people down so they can be higher than them. I also like when you did the view of the school stuff, lost and forgotten when lost or thrown away.

You could have expressed more feeling in "I am Lost" about the loss of him/her.

All and all though I really loved this set of poems :) I can tell you worked hard on this one.

I love this poem because it reminds me of the past. I'm not sure how old you are, but this reminds me of the thoughts and feelings I had at 16. You portrayed those feelings of being lost and hopeless well.
