Be Still

Be Still

A Poem by The Scholar
"

Psalm 46:10 ~ “Be still, and know that I am God.”

"

Be still, and watch the world awake,
Watch, and marvel at the dawning light,
As the sun yawns and peeks his face above the hills,
As golds and pinks shower the world,
And the morning shakes its sleepy head.

Be still, and listen to the waking world,
Listen, and wonder at the morning bird's song,
At the scurrying and pattering of little feet,
And the rustling of freshly stirred leaves
Like a million voices whispering quiet secrets.

Be still, and feel the world's awakening,
Feel, with eyes closed and mouth silent,
The fresh and swift caressing wind
That stirs the silent hush of morn',
And the warmth of yellow rays of sun.

Be still, and smell the waking of the world,
Smell, the flowers blooming pure and new,
The grasses bending under dew,
And the water clean and cold and crisp
That splashes life on those who sleep.

Be still, and taste the world as it wakes,
Taste, while eyes and ears and hands and nose are elsewhere,
The freshly baked biscuits of golden brown,
Painted on with strokes of butter,
And the fruits of morning sweet and sour.

Be still, and wait as the morning dawns,
Wait, as the world opens its tired eyes,
And wait as the quiet breaks -
As the world returns to its hurried state
Be still, my friend, be still and wait.

Alrighty, so I wrote this one in a bit of a hurry, just wanted to get some thoughts down.
I’d love any critiques, as I am still working on it and hoping to improve it.
It’s a work in progress . . .

And of course, I am a Christian, so I naturally think of the verse about being still and knowing that there is a God. I think it's important that every once in a while we simply sit and wait, and be still, in order to find peace in this hurried frenzy of a world. I realize that everyone can find peace in their own ways. Through writing perhaps . . . Being a Christian however, I very oft' find mine through the knowledge that there is all-powerful God out there who, for some unfathomable reason, loves me.

My apologies for rambling, it happens. Just wanted to share.

Powerful. Not in a overpowering way. It just makes - like really makes - you sit own and do everything. Right now it is before dawn and after I'm done typing this I have the urge to just watch the dawn and the world awake...... Amazing.

Wow. I really really like this. I like the description of the poem, how it was a psalm, and from a Christian view point, I can just see how this just caputures the incredible creation of Earth that God gave to us, and the beauty that He share is we just be still and experience it. Wonderful poem.
