Soul Mate

Soul Mate

A Poem by Michael Corkill
"

A Godly Love

"
 The Lord my God

    came unto me,

one night in a visions dream.

"Your wife and you,

      I alone have made

then formed you into a team."

“What must I do?

              Dear son, I’ve tried,

to get this through to you.”

“I gave her to you

as a gift of  pure love,

made faithful , trustworthy and true.”

Then the Lord

    did touch my heart,

and with fear I began to shake.

“Her Love!” I cried

    aloud to God,

“Is to cherish and not to forsake!”

“I have sealed you both in heaven.”

The Lord, my God did state,

“Created from your deepest desire,

To join with you’re soul mate.”

"She loves without you asking,

   You love her without fear.

     Crying out to each other,

You must listen to ever hear."

“Thy will be done, Dear Father.”

Was all I could manage to say.

"I will serve You, Lord ,

            In loving my wife

                   Until my final day."

Thank you, David for the advice. The staggering means nothing that I know of it is just an old habit I never really thought much of. It helps me to more easily find statements and such. I really do find your critique an invaluable asset as I was not aware of the term 'Quatrains', I am led to believe that terms describes a stanza of four lines. Great stuff. please stay close I may have some questions later on. But I will read some more of your work first. Still not disappointed...........................................................................................................................Michael

Don't like the staggering of the lines, I see no purpose in that, especially as your formatting changes within the poem itself. Those initial stanzas should be quatrains, not broken up into six line verses.

The Lord my God came unto me,
one night in a visions dream.
"Your wife and you, I alone have made
then formed you into a team."
