A Poem by Amalia Gray

Sat in the pink light
and let apathy settle in.
Didn't want to die,
I wanted to be stripped bare,
To make love with the gods.

The mountains are my dear friends,
but the wind was once my lover.
I danced in his grain,
I stood naked in the street,
as he covered me with soft roses.

I would've surrendered to the wind,
let him blow me into the woods,
let the tree branches cut up my cheeks.
But now all I can do
is lay down in the nettles,
atop the anthill,
and sacrifice my flesh
to the creatures of the earth.

Maybe if they feast on me,
my life will have purpose.
Maybe if they love me,
I will surrender to the forest floor.

And maybe when the woods burn down,
the wind will blow our ashes
into the vast ocean.

Despite the splendid imagery, depression peers out from these lines. The sense of apathy and purposelessness overrides all of the sexual images. The last verses especially reflect the attitude of defeat and despair.

Hello, Amalia! :)
I think its a lovely poem. I suppose the wind is not something we can hold on to, but it may blow by again. Thanks for sharing.

Very true :). Thanks for taking the time to read it.
Wonderful words, Amalia, believe it or not but you are a poet. I was drawn by the evocative images in this work. Despite you saying it was jumbled I saw something within it. A spirit and love for nature. Being consumed by it willingly giving into the primal essence of nature. Until being devoured by its love. Is it the embodiment of nature she is drawn to? Or is it simply the primal need for love in our own nature. Good poetry could mean so many things to different readers, as it should. And it can speak to us in so many different levels. Remarkable work that you should be proud of. Thank you so much for sharing your art.
