The World, Coming to an End

The World, Coming to an End

A Poem by Meliss@k
"

A Senior's high school year is overrated. Truly though.

"

It still hasn't fully hit me that I'm graduating.... which kinda stinks because I'm stressing about "school" when I only have a day left of it.  Ah, crazy how these "HUGE" worries of my life right now will be something I wish I still had in the future, because this present "Huge" will be nothing compared to the real world worries that i'll soon explore;
It's weird how children long to be old, Not wanting to play when they are told,

Yet growing up, one wishes to be young,

Wanting to play, but knowing already that the "fat lady" has sung...

It's weird how children are taught to play and explore,

Not wanting to take naps or help out with chores,

Yet growing up, children wish they were older,

Never being taught to do so.... Yet wanting independence to quickly grow.

It's so ironic, the word "children",

Because children begin their adolecent lives wanting to obtain the life of an adult.

It's almost as if the child already know,

That their life will never easily flow.

It's weird how children long to be old,

As if it is placed in their heads, like a necessary mold.

I'm a junior right now and though I still have a year, I'm wondering how the heck-ola I'm going to get everything done. And at the same time, I'm happy I'm growing up. All the while, I'm torn because I want to remain a child a little longer before the world pushes these responsibilities and expectations on me. Thank you for sharing this. I could easily relate and really enjoyed it.

You are most welcome, lovely poet :)
I think in a more general sense we ridiculous creatures spend most of our lives wishing to be in some state other than our current one. How many times do you hear anyone say they are so happy with their lives, compared to the amount of people who say, 'I wish I was XXXX'.

Maybe it's our innate desire to improve that has helped us evolve so well.

A nice, simple verse this. Simple is always good in my book! :)
