Longings of the Past

Longings of the Past

A Poem by Meliss@k
"

Since I wrote this, God has shown me to long for Him, and to fall in love with Him before I fall in love with a man on this earth. Earthly things wont satisfy and fail us, but God never will.

"

"husband" and "wife"
-Paper cuts to the finger-
But holes... to the heart,
They're becoming my jealousy
This "bond between two"
My heaviest burden
Yet, my deepest desire
Is it healthy?
This bondage? This fire?
I want it for myself
But despise it of others

"My husband" "my wife" "my best friend" "my love"

Oh heart,
How thy beating is faint and far
Must such words and such names
Be locked in a jar?

No more, from now on, no more talk of this "love"

Man and woman apart
The earth from the stars

Now I can be happy
Alone in a tomb,
Away from the stars, I'll just sleep like the moon.

Yet, I wake up from noises
Laughter afar
A woman and man
Exchanging lives and hearts

Instantly
I can't breath
A strike to my chest
I finally understand
Finding love is a mess

A mess of emotions
A mess of desire
A mess of lessons
And the hope of Fire

Some fires destroy, demolish, Deform
But others
Burn, start over, fires
Reborn

Oh Husband
Oh Wife
Oh life which I live

Find me in time,
My Heart May I Give.

Author's Note

Meliss@k
God has shown me "His heart" (as stated above, "my heart may I give") instead, and has told me that the "more I draw close to Him, the more He will draw close to me". I hope this can also be an encouragement to you who are longing for love. I once read "the archenemy for contentment is self-pity", and until we are content in our singleness and with the blessings and life God has already given us, we will only be living in a river of lifelong self-pity (which is evident from this poem that I hadn't learned how to be content yet... And that I was still in my own self pity).

"Draw close to Him, and He will draw close to you"

Okay, now I understand what you were referring in your poem "Find Me"... I completely agree with you, the earthly pleasures cannot satisfy us because they are here today and gone tomorrow but God's love is never ending and that's the greatest love one can ever find in his life.... Very inspiring and true... Thank you so much for inspiring me, I was a bit lost for the last couple of days....

Sincerely

Poignant write – it reads as a poetic journey of self-examination! Rejecting the impulse to feel sorry for ourselves is not easy. Life provides many opportunities to experience rejection, injustice, and the cruelty of man. Our natural response is self-protection, which often results in self-pity. However, we can choose to “walk by the Spirit, and . . . not gratify the desires of the flesh” (Galatians 5:16). We can refuse to indulge our sin natures and choose instead a grateful heart, trusting that “it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfil his good purpose” (Philippians 2:13).
Bless you … :-)
