Council Meeting

Council Meeting

A Poem by Gerald Parker

Objection started it:
broke the kindling tension.
Words inflamed one corner,
flared around the room.

They leapt to their feet;
drew burning swords
to blaze and scorch;
but, turned back by mirror-wit,

seared themselves,
and caved in,
a divided rubble,
the protest of embers.

From the chair
came a dampening-down,
delayed to perfection,
waving away the stench

of politics, as the school
was extinguished
for good,
with a rubber stamp.

I could envisage this situation taking place and the uproar that would have ensued at such a decision. Unusual topic for a poem Gerald, but you approached it well and nailed it.

About
There's not much to tell. I read a lot of poetry and I read my own poetry regularly. I hope other people read it and derive as much pleasure out of it as I do. My output is small, about 110 poems as I.. more..
