Chapter 4: Fight and flight

Chapter 4: Fight and flight

A Chapter by Michael Schiebel

Fallon thought he saw movement deep within the mist where Rose was pointing. The fog was swirling  behind them as if something had just moved out of sight.

“I see it too.  Do you think we are being followed?” Fallon asked. As the mist settled Fallon could just make out a shape in the mist.  Whatever it was was wrong.  Its shape seemed to shift in a way that his mind couldn’t grasp.

“Whatever it is its huge.” Ian responded edging back toward the shape and of to the side in order to pick up a large branch off the ground.  The huge for moved forward into view.
The first impression Fallon had was a shifting mass of tentacles surrounding glowing yellow eyes.  Hungry eyes. The beast stepped forward on for great fur covered legs each wider than Fallon whole body.  The legs ended in massive bear-like paws with 6 inch claws.  With a sudden burst the beast leaped forward. “Look out! Its charging!”

“What do we do!” Sara yelled before turning and running. “Run!” she yelled as she disappeared into the mist.  Fallon turned back around in time to see the beast smash into Rose.

“Ahhg …” Rose screamed as the beast picked her up with two huge arms ending in clawed paws.  The claws dug into her back as blood spurted out Rose’s mouth ending her screams.  The tentacles; slimy things with suckers rimmed with teeth wrapped around Rose obscuring her struggling form from sight.

“Rose!” Ian cried leaping forward and smashing the beast with the club.  The mass of tentacles snatched Ian up and shook him like a rag doll.  Fallon was frozen as the beast ripped Rose and Ian to bits and gore rained down in all directions.  And then the beast turned towards him.

“B*****d!” Fallon screamed as the beast leaped at him.  Time slowed down. Fallon felt a click and a doorway that he didn’t know existed opened within him.  Power flowed out of that door filling Fallon with a calming energy.  Fallon raise his hand towards the slowly descending beast a felt the energy leap out of him towards the beast.

The brightly glowing pulse of energy hit the beast right between the eyes burning and melting as it spread over the beast’s head.  Fallon could feel the energy spreading over his skin like a thin suit of armor and Fallon knew that anything that touched him would be eaten the same way.  The beast was still slowly descending upon Fallon as he let loose another pulse of energy.  The pulse hit the beast in the chest and ate inwards seeking the beasts heart.

Then the beast was upon him and Fallon felt no more.
