I Awoke and Found Me Dreaming

I Awoke and Found Me Dreaming

A Poem by Michael

I awoke and found me dreaming,
slumbering upon my bed.
Yet still confused on which was real,
the standing or resting head,
I chose to ignore the matter
and grab a coffee instead.

I returned to check my bedroom
oh yes - I still lie asleep!
So I sat down with my coffee
and struggled with thoughts this deep,
Then finally I found my answer -
a nugget for me to keep.

As I sat there with my coffee
to see which of me was real
some wry truth of life was forming -
takes both for me to heal
for life's truth is found in dreaming
that repairs the hurts we feel.

When I awoke from my vision
to find only one of me,
lo, my thoughts were on that nugget
that allowed me to be free
and survive to morning's day break
full of things I've yet to see.

Dreams can be wonderful , spooky , or just plain funny. When I went through ten years of seizures in the night I would get up, write out a complete poem and go back to bed and not even know I had been up until I found the work lying on the coffee table..I wrote some of my best stuff in those ten dark years. I liked this one,,God bless..Valentine

I love everything about this poem. "I awoke and found me dreaming" is wonderfully said, and has its impact both as a title and in the poem. You tell something, but what lies within it is very deep. You bind all the elements together in a beautiful way.

Awesome write. Dreaming is so important to me - many of my ideas come from them - I often wake laughing or dream in vivid colors or musical compositions. They are so special to me. The idea of viewing yourself in this way - outside of yourself - watching yourself sleep is truly mesmerizing. Beautiful cadence to this work. Thank you.

Ahhh... lovely piece to wake up to. Flows like a dream, at that. I like the rhyme scheme, and the message very much. You have a way of pointing out truth.

I have heard of having day dreams about night things LOL
This was different but fun to read, nice job
Reminded me of the old TV commercial "its time to make the donuts"
