The Stars Arise

The Stars Arise

A Poem by Undying Glory
"

A poem I thought of in the dying hours of 2010, at least where I was. Hope you like this one!

"
The Stars Arise

Look above you.
The stars arise on this glorious night.
Lighting up the sky in all their power and might,
Like shining beacons of hope so far away.

Can you feel it?
Can you feel the final hours of this dying year
Slowly ebb away into the past, just left behind?
Can you feel the first hours of this coming year
Bringing all our hopes and dreams for all this time?

We pray that the coming year will be better.
And we make our resolutions, our promises, our trust.
We say we will all make it out together
And we shall hold on to our dreams, whatever the cost.

But shall our dreams be like fire without fuel?
Unable to sustain itself despite its will to survive
A blazing display of pure force and strength
Reduced to mere ashes and glowing embers?
Or shall they be like the distant stars?
Powerful and brilliant, shining in the dark sky
Not just mere dreams forged into reality
But inspirations too for others lost
That they too, can achieve their destiny.

What further glories await us in these new moments?

Perhaps new love and solace to broken hearts,
And once more the garden of romance shall blossom
As the roses and flowers in the midst of spring,
Happiness and joy, all that love shall bring.

Perhaps victories anew for the defeated and despairing,
And once more glory shall be bestowed upon us,
Upon the souls who have struggled again and again,
Yet with nothing to show for, their efforts in vain.

And if and when our dreams do die
Let them not fade out into emptiness
As the glowing embers die out,
But do not give up until the very end,
As the dying  great star tries to its final moments
Before finally exploding into supernova,
Lighting up the Universe in all its fallen glory,
For winners may come and go
But is it not the one who falls bravely
Who lives forever in our hearts?

Our dreams are true.
And we shall learn from the lessons of life
Smelted in the forge of pain and strife
As our consolations in our difficult days.

Look above you.
What do you see?

As for my references to stars in this poem, supernovae have been known to outshine entire galaxies. Talk about going out in style...
Furthermore, scientists have also proven that elements are actually forged in the cores of dying stars, just like the lessons of life that we learn in difficult times...
And in case any of you are wondering, not all stars burst into supernovae. Only the biggest do so, stars far bigger than our own Sun.
Oh yes, and one last thing. Supernovae seen through telescopes do not look this colourful. They would appear as a very bright dot. The colour will only be seen when footage/satellite images of the supernova are scanned with different waves (radio waves, microwaves, etc) as indications of what's left behind.
Hope you enjoyed this!

Well done. A poem with a real message for the New Year. I think the sentence structure in lines 31 and 36 is a bit cumbersome - the way things are my reading was interrupted by the syntax. In lines 33 and 34, I think i'd leave out the word 'out.' Otherwise a powerful way to start 2011.

Is not our life but that of a flickering candle, burning brightly till the wind comes, and then all our tomorrows are gone, we must live the life we are given and be content, serve God as best we can, and trust in him.
Thats what your poem did for me, thank you

Wow, this is amazing. I love all of the explorations of what the New Year brings us. The author's note adds to the writing too. I'm in awe of celestial wonders of the outer space.

Now this just blew me away! your insight, and intelligence just shone in this one.
"But shall our dreams be like fire without fuel?
Unable to sustain itself despite its will to survive"
wo.O.w I was so perplexed, because (not that I don't love it) your other writing is in so many ways like a window to a teenager's hopes, dreams, fears. someone of youth, someone carefree and unhurt. but this one just shone in its knowledge, and had more depth than the rest.!
I loved it.
Also, thanks for all the reviews. I'm glad you're enjoying The Randomness of a 16 yr old! I just posted another similar one called ''zoo'', i think i may have sent you a request.
anyway, keep writing! thanks again for all the encouragement you have shown since the beginning! and once again, Keep writing! :):)
