and sugary grits
When you cried for something
in Kmart in June and it was under your tree on Christmas morning
When you would draw your family
with crayons and sometimes a make-believe Daddy with a Black beard
When you knew what love was and sex was distant from your mind...

Life was sweet

Lovely poem...reminds me growing up having nothing and shopping at kmart...the tough times I lived, yet I had a happy child hood. Life can be sweet, and bittersweet at the same time.
