the stream

the stream

A Poem by MissRed
"

Not sure where this came from. Just started writing and this came out!

"

all alone when the house is full

what kind of life is this

she slips out the backdoor

lets it shut with only a creak

and leaves the "how do you dos" and laughter behind her

the wind has a chill that bites at her cheeks

and she thinks for a moment the pain is so good

down the back hill to a stream frozen over

she slinks further from the strangers she calls her own

no reflection will be seen on this icy day however

and this, and this alone, puts a frown on her face

sometimes it is hard to know what is real

who loves you, who cares, who sees who you really are

is that which is real reflected back unto you

it is this that she relies on each day

not a pinch or shiver or hug or kiss

seeing herself, rugged and red in the face

is the only sign that can say

"i'm alive" in her lonely world

This brought tears to my eyes. I've read it FOUR times so far, and I'm stupefied. Truly a perfect reflection of an internal life and a quest to find one's truth.

Wow, seriously, I don't have the words. I LOVED the line:

she slinks further from the strangers she calls her own

You spoke VOLUMES with that simple line, and again, it's just perfection.

Thank you.
