Patchwork

Patchwork

A Poem by MissRed
"

About the bond women form with friendships

"

we women, we friends, all share so much

we have been brought together

and put together like a quilt of time

our stories the pieces cut from the same cloth

and carefully sewn with a common thread

the loves in which we cried tears of joy and happiness

where the loves we each cried tears of sorrow over

the best loves were the loves worth telling in only whispers

when one heart leaps or falls, so do the others

each birth of a child might as well be our own

for we feel the pain and know the pleasure

that comes with a newborn's first cry of life

and we relive those moments together forever

each death empties and drains us the same

and when we hold each other, trying to take the others' hurt

the stitching grows tighter and stronger than before

in death we grow perhaps stronger than with each life begun

each trial in life, each missed step, each triumph

they are different and yet somehow the same

the pattern of our lives, we friends, grows on and out

put together as a whole, a story that will live forever

a story of the past, a story for the future
