City of tagorian sweets~ Bhuyanshi Talukdar

A Poem by Bhuyanshi Talukdar

The city of tagorian sweets
narrates a tale of Gitanjali's
saccharine melancholy.

Mishti doi swirls over
the bustling marketplace.
And oh!
the maccher jhol mingles
with the uproar of
vendors' calls and rickshaw bells.

Jhalmuri crunches and pops.
Rosgulla entice with
assurances of fleeting bliss.
Pather Panchali's echoes
linger in the air.

Creepy and surreal,
M/s Victoria's memorial.
a silent tribute to the passage of time
paid by hashnahana.

Down by Princep Ghat,
the weight of centuries-old stories
strolls.

Bhuyanshi ... I assume to be pronounced 'boo-yan-she'? Am I close? Reading your poems and researching the terms and names you write gives me quite an education. I was very happy to discover Tagore's writings. The English translations are reminiscent of America's Walt Whitman (the little I've read so far). I very much enjoyed this poem and will continue reading your posts. Thank you!

a lovely glance at a market somewhere in India with various merchants selling their wares...typically they shout out what they are selling and for the cost... then down by the ghat ages old stories are told;
Interesting names of the vnedors .....Name of town or city?
Warmly, B
