Death Comes

Death Comes

A Poem by Michael McLaughlin

Death Comes

Was it you I saw
Evening last?

Are you a person
From the past?

And how was death
Our final friend?
Did he treat you well in the end?

Was it cold and dark
One final day
Into a world of dismay?

Did he take you gently
Into the night
Or was it a bitter
And angry flight?

Where are you from?
Why do you come?
Does life make your
Senses numb?

Release the day
Away the night.
Have you come to take me
To a world of fright?

I know not why.
Shall I die.
And where is it
My corpse will lie?

Have you come for me?
What's this I see?
A world of pain and misery?

Death comes I know.
Death comes I know.
Death comes I know.

A wonderful poem and one I enjoyed reading. Its message is one I have found myself pondering much lately. The ryhme scheme really drew me in and in the end found myself fascinated by this work as a whole. Very nice work. Thank you for sharing your poem with us.
