Waiting for my prince to come.

Waiting for my prince to come.

A Poem by Kimberly "Melody" Carney

Waiting here for my prince to come,

he’ll sweep me off my feet.

We’ll ride off into the sunset,

my new fate I will meet

Here he comes oh, my dream come true!

He’s everything I want.

Time slips by, time opens my eyes,

the realities so blunt!

I waited for him for oh, so long,

living in fantasy!

Never worked on me not even once,

just dreams of ecstasy.

So here I am alone again,

caught up in misery!

Now what I’ve learned to do this time,

is take some time for me.

I’ve learned to laugh and love myself,

to be the best, I can.

I’ve learned that I can be happy now,

it was found in me, not a man.

~Melody

Author's Note

Kimberly "Melody" Carney
The joy of a healthy relationship is one I would never want to be with out, but had to be happy with me first to find it.
Again, I am not saying love is not essential...never said that, not sure why everyone thinks I did. The moral of the story is we so many times wait for love to make us happy, it won’t work until we work on ourselves first, become happy within ourselves, then love will work.

The picture and the music fit this poem perfectly. I was quite surprised by it's contents I must say. I've always been told by others you must love yourself before you can love another. I believe that it should be said, you must love yourself, in order to know when another loves you. If you don't love for yourself, how can you expect anyone else too? I like this. Maybe a prince will come along, that just adds to the love that you already found in yourself. Great piece ^_^

LOVE IT!!!! I honestly had the same thing happen to me. I always looked for a man to make me happy, but it's learning to love yourself for who you are first! Then, when you feel in love with yourself, a man will fall in love with who you are. So many girls should read your poem because, many of them should learn the lesson within it. Great job 100/100!

Your poem seems to be talking about the disappointment of a failed relationship. Where you thought someone was the greatest thing since peanut butter, only to realize he's just an empty jar, your left with just your own feelings. And you're right. All our endeavors in life will likely be more successful if we start from the foundation of our own self-esteem. Another good poem.

you can find love everywhere. in your family and friends. The intimate love you are talking about is not essential and you have made a great poem here :)

I enjoy the truth that in all your work. You write to give the reader a message. It's not just about feelings. It's about encourage and hope and beauty around us. If you can't love first ourselves we can't love someone else. Unfortunately people confuse this with self-love and that is a whole other ballgame. Nicely done. Have you ever thought of trying to count syllables to make it like a ballad. 8/6 or 9/7 format?

I thought you might be trying to do that. Geesh is that ever HARD. Keep up the great work Melody.
So true Melody....when one is content & happy and meets another who is also..then it is a grand relationship...those that look to others to make them happy are..well... takers and makes for a very onesided, unhealthy relationship...
