The Little Things

The Little Things

A Poem by Molly Garnet

It’s always the little things we remember
The crease next to your eye
Your favorite breakfast
The way you adore your sister
I could list your favorite movies
In order
And why you love them
I remember
Even though you only told me once.
I know you hate orange
And masks scare the hell out of you
You went to summer camp for two days when you were twelve
But you broke your arm and came right back home
You only drink water
No lemon
And your posture is atrocious
You love learning
And you’re wicked smart
But you doubt yourself
And you don’t know how amazing you are
You love puns
And stupid jokes
And you laugh at every one of mine
And I always wonder if you actually think they’re funny
Or if you just like to humor me
You hate olives
You live for the gym
And you would die before letting anyone see your middle school pictures
It’s so funny
But I guess it’s typical
Because we always remember the little things.

...I love the orchestration of this, how it methodically unwinds. Girl, you can write!!
