Screaming Down the Wires

Screaming Down the Wires

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

Yet-another deadly massacre!

"

Screaming Down the Wires

Just saw on the news, the dreaded words, “School shooting!”

Unspeakable horror; unbelievable scenes

Many dead children among the victims

What would drive a man to those desperate measures?

Whether you’re a gun owner or not,

You have to admit something must be done

Insanity seems to be what the 2nd amendment’s come to represent

I mean, there’s individual liberty, then there’s just plain crazy!

They’ll sit there and defend their rights

What about the victim’s rights?

They have the right to sit in their classroom without WWII

Erupting around them; where’s their right to live?

The NRA’s against reasonable background checks,

Limiting the number of bullets a gun can fire in a short time

Common sense has left these people

Sure, these things won’t stop gun violence,

But at least we can say we did everything we could

And maybe, just maybe, stop this from

Happening with such frightening regularity
