Lost Among the Ruins

Lost Among the Ruins

A Poem by Michael Stevens
"

How I felt upon first waking from a coma

"

Lost among the ruins of all my hopes and dreams.

I try to find remembrances, but nothing's looks right to me.

All familiarity gone, just a stranger in a strange land,

nothing I recognize, nothing I know first-hand.

Everything seems different, nothing looks the same,

as I stare with haunted eyes, it's a struggle to stay sane.

Too much change, too fast, has left me reeling,

as I try to deal with all the unfamiliar feelings.

No longer sure of where I'm headed, or which direction to go.

No longer sure which way is up, or of the things I used to know.

The world seems full of leering monsters out to get me.

Someone help me understand all the changes that I see.

That is very sad. I've never been in a coma, but it would be most frightening to wake up and not regognize the things around me.

Yeah, it was, and not something I'd like to repeat any time soon!
