To my Mum

To my Mum

A Poem by MoE
"

This poem is based on a little girls life that happened during the industrial revolution.

“Dear mum,

I miss you dearly.

I feel as if I'm numb,

but...how can this explain this clearly?

From 5am to 9pm I work in the factory,

while I work I see soot surrounding me in the large room,

the workers are being yelled at for our work is unsatisfactory.

I even see them beating A woman with a child in her womb.

There is so much soot I can hardly breath in here,

soI closed my eyes and fell to the floor.

When I opened my eyes all I saw was the over seer,

he saw that I was awake, he told me to work some more.

The manger told me honestly that If we don't work,

that he will fetch his monster and have him gobble us down.

My eyes widened and I told him I will be glad to work,

then he waved his hand at me in dismissal as he glanced around.

Mum, It is awful,

this is one thing I hope no one will ever have to see.

I cant believe this is actually lawful.

I wish I could act like a Nine year old child like I'm suppose to be.

Oh, mum, the people's emotions is all that I feel,

Anger, sadness, hunger and fear.

And out of all we do we don't even get a good meal!

For all of us, I pray that the end is near.

I wish brother and I were with you in that special place in the clouds,

instead of working day after day down here.

For I fear that one day I will be trampled in this crowd,

leaving my brother alone and never to reappear.

Tonight I will dream of you, my brother and of father, wherever he may be,

Tonight, everything shall be alright.

We shall be on an island, far from here, surrounded by only the sea,

with the sun shinning oh, so bright.

Oh, what I sight it would be when all of you are with me.

This is what I will think of when I fall asleep,

of all of us to be oh, so free.

This is what I will think of as I weep.”

That night, the Angels took her away.

They took her to heaven to meet her new Father.

There, she was lead to her mother while the angels yelled: “Make way!”

She smiled & cried tears of joy to see her mother with her little brother.
